A TOUR HEADED FOR COP26

Location
CCA Glasgow
Centre for Contemporary Arts 350 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow G2 3JD

The activist singers from New York bring their joyful, radical music for the Earth to the UK. After performances across the country, the exuberant troupe will reach COP 26 International Conference for Climate Change with two shows in Glasgow. Whether COP26 will be so pleased to see them remains to be seen!

The Earth Riot Tour is like a cloudburst of melody and rhythm mixed with open conversation about the uprising of our physical world. At a turning point in our lives, as shock extinction accelerates, how do we live and how do we love? The show is breath taking, joyful, and heart breaking. Earthalujah!

‘It’s an act. It’s an art. It’s almost a religion!’ New York Times

The Church of Stop Shopping have been entertaining doomsayers at the forefront of climate change activism and anti-consumerist direct action for 20 years. They have toured the world (including a crossing the USA opening for Neil Young) with their cloudbursts of rhythm, melody and message. Their shows are a triumph in performance. The associated activism and interventions are a benchmark for civil disobedience and direct action. www.revbilly.com

Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir joined forces with “BP or not BP?” to recreate the BP Deepwater Horizon spill inside the British Museum. The unsanctioned performance filled the Great Court with singing, dancing, a giant pelican drowning in oil and an impassioned sermon calling on the Museum to dump BP, whose sponsorship contract is due to expire soon. Savitri D, Director of Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, worked with London’s “BP or Not BP” to create the umbrella oil stain.

BP plans to drill four new wells in the Great Australian Bight, an internationally-recognized sanctuary for southern right whales and their calves, blue and humpback whales and Australian sea lions.
